Mission Statement
The Historic Blooming Grove Historical Society preserves and advances the culture and history of Blooming Grove, Monona and Southeastern Madison--all of which was, historically, in the Township of Blooming Grove. The Victorian furnished Dean House is a living testimony to the pioneer spirit fostering our American heritage and contributing to our growth as a community and serves as a center for events and local history study.
For general inquiries and donations to the Society's collections contact Robert A. Bean at 608 222-5783 or email ram2bean@charter.net
Funding
The Historic Blooming Grove Historical Society is funded by memberships, contributions and grants. There is no fee for any of the society's public events, but donations are always welcome.
The Goodman Community Center has published a 156 page book of photos and reminiscences gathered from people who grew up in the Schenk's-Atwood neighborhood. It is for sale at the new Goodman Center, 149 Waubesa Street, for $20.
If you would like to join the people who have been reminiscing about once a month at the Goodman Center, call Pat Martin (241-0895) and ask to have your name added to the mailing list for meeting announcements.

Writing this message on a very cold and gloomy day in November, it is a pleasure to look back on our once-again successful Back Porch Concerts held this past summer, ending with an awesome Ice Cream Social. We will soon start planning for next year’s concerts—if you have a favorite and would like them to be a part of our programs, please let us know.
This past June, the Dean House was part of the Attic Angels Tour. We had over five hundred people visit the House. The feedback was extremely kind, and the publicity was priceless.
On November 14th, we gave our annual tour to the Second graders of Frank Allis School. Two classes in the morning and two classes in the afternoon got to meet “Abraham Lincoln”. Tour guides, Bob Bean, Ann Waidelich, Ruth Kutz, Gary Hess, Dorothy Haines, and I dressed in costumes. We encourage other schools to come and tour the Dean House and learn about this wonderful resource we call History. Just let us know if we can be of any assistance in your planning.
I hope you are planning to attend our Christmas Open House. We have lots of surprises in store for you. May you have a lovely Holiday Season.
Gloria Simley, President
