Glendale Neighborhood Assn. Awarded

The newly formed Madison Neighborhoods, Inc. presented the first annual Neighborhood of the Year Award to the Glendale Neighborhood Association for its work in producing a history booklet called Glendale: A Neighborhood, A School and their Park. Mary Bean project manager and contributing editor and about a dozen other area residents were involved in the research for the booklet.

The booklet honors the 40th anniversary of the GNA and its involvement over the years with Glendale Elementary School and the Edna Taylor Conservation Park. Free copies of the 50 page booklet are available at the Pinney Branch Library or the Dean House. Reference copies are also available at the Monona Public Library and other Madison Libraries.

There are many opportunities to collect local history. HBGHS has hosted "history round tables" where people gather to talk about a topic. These have been starting points for gathering more information on area history. If you have documents, diaries or pictures or would like to do research to add to our Blooming Grove history archives, please contact our Dean House Curator Ann Waidelich, 249-7920.

2007 Historic Calendars

Historic Madison, Inc. has produced a 2007 calendar with 12 historic Madison photographs and dates of when historic events occured. Copies will be for sale for $10 at the Christmas Open House at the Dean House.

Four Lakes Ice Yacht Club has produced a 2007 calendar featuring old and new photos of ice boats primarily on Lake Monona. Available for $25 (proceeds to support the club) from Debbie Whitehorse, 221-1289.
