Mission Statement
The Historic Blooming Grove Historical Society preserves and advances the culture and history of Blooming Grove, Monona and Southeastern Madison--all of which was, historically, in the Township of Blooming Grove. The Victorian furnished Dean House is a living testimony to the pioneer spirit fostering our American heritage and contributing to our growth as a community and serves as a center for events and local history study.
For general inquiries and donations to the Society's collections contact Robert A. Bean at 608 222-5783 or email ram2bean@charter.net
Funding
The Historic Blooming Grove Historical Society is funded by memberships, contributions and grants. There is no fee for any of the society's public events, but donations are always welcome.
By Gloria Simley
Would you like to be in the parade riding in one of the Lichtfelds Peerless automobiles? The autos are going to be the HBGHS "float" this year. Please call Gloria Simley (222-3859) to "sign-up". We are especially looking for veterans who will wear their military uniforms or hats.
Memorial Day Donuts & Coffee
Don't forget to stop by the front porch of the Dean House for coffee and donuts while waiting for the Memorial Day Parade to start.
Membership Renewal Time and Dues Increase
It is time to renew your membership, a form is enclosed for your convenience. A benefit of membership is a coupon (printed elsewhere in this newsletter) good for 20% off a regular adult admission to Wisconsin's historic sites during June.
The Board felt it was necessary to increase the dues slightly. After reviewing the following annual operating costs we hope you will understand and continue to support the Dean House: Insurance $1,600; Utilities $2,650; House Maintenance $500; Newsletter and Postage $750; Collections Maintenance and other Organizational Expenses $800.
Connecting to Collections
The HBGHS was awarded a collection of 15 books on how to care for the Dean House and its historical collections from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services. The books provide information on housekeeping, emergency response to disasters, conservation and preservation of objects, caring for photographs and a 2 volume Museum Handbook from the National Park Service. We look forward to sharing this information with HBGHS members and other historical societies in Dane County.
