In Memoriam
Marie Rider

As we mourn the death of Marie Rider on Friday, March 10th, we celebrate her life and the life she brought to the Dean House. From the founding ofHBGHS in 1972, she and her husband, Bill, who passed in 2002, were leaders in the restoration of the Dean House, served on the Board of HBGHS, spent many hours in antique stores and at auctions looking for hardware and other objects for the house, and brought wonderful kitchen creations for the many fund raising events. She was a skilled and creative seamstress and crafter, creating dresses for the docents and objects that help bring an authentic Victorian atmosphere to the Dean House.

The Historic Blooming Grove Historical Society will always remember Bill and Marie Rider and be thankful for their many contributions.

Come to the Summer Concerts on Thursday Evenings

Music will be wafting in the air from the back porch of the Dean House on seven Thursday evenings this summer. Each Thursday, beginning at 7:15 p.m., a different group of musicians will volunteer their talents for the pleasure of friends and neighbors relaxing on the lawn out on the grass. The hat will be passed for contributions to benefit the Dean House; the soft breezes will provide the air conditioning, and the setting sun will gradually dim the lights. Come and bring your chairs.

The schedule is as follows:

June 29 - KG and the Ranger, western music

July 6 - I Hear Singing, a musical trio

July 13 - Round the Bend, Blue Grass music

July 20 - Sound of Madison, female vocals

July 27 - Capital Chordsmen, barbershop music
