Mission Statement
Founded in 1971, the Historic Blooming Grove Historical society preserves and advances the culture and history of the Blooming Grove, Monona and Southeast Madison, Wisconsin, area. To fulfill this purpose the Dean House is used as a center for cultural events and local history study. It is hoped that the Dean House will be a living testimony to the pioneer spirit fostering our American heritage and a representation of that spirit in the historic Township of Blooming Grove.
Museum
The Society's Dean House Museum is located at 4718 Monona Drive, Madison, Wisconsin. The Dean House is open from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on the second Sunday of every month and by appointment with the building manager or the Society's curator.
Acquisitions
The Society accepts the donation of items with ties to historic Blooming Grove Township or which are appropriate to a rural Victorian farm home. Contact the building manager or the Society's curator.
Greetings from HBGHS President

By Gloria Simley

According to the calendar, Spring is here! Although the temperature is a bit on the cold side, the song birds are singing to their fullest, the sun shines once in awhile, and the HBGHS is busy preparing the schedule for the next several months. But, the latter doesn't happen all by itself

Once again, I need to thank the many volunteers who make it all real. Our Monday morning maintenance crew, headed by Bob Bean are busy preparing the basement for cementing. Gary Hess has realigned the doors and repaired the door knobs and locks at the Dean House. Ann Waidelich, Helen Cattell, Dorothy Haines and I also meet on Monday mornings to sew, catalog clothing, and do anything else that needs to be done. It is a fun project and certainly a learning experience.

I encourage any of you, guys and gals, to come on over and join us. Coffee, goodies, and comradeship are always a part of our morning.

Important events coming up are our Annual Meeting, Open Houses, Back Porch Concerts---lots of neat surprises, especially celebrating the 15th Birthday of the Dean House.

I also want to thank the Madison Parks Department, the City of Madison, and Ald. Judy Compton for the recognition of the numerous volunteers who have made the HBGHS and the Dean House such an enormous success. (See article on page 4)

Come and be a part of this very exciting organization

A New History Booklet: Glendale: A Neighborhood, a School and their Park

The Glendale Neighborhood Association has produced a 54-page, illustrated history booklet about their neighborhood, their school and the Edna Taylor Conservation Park. It was funded in part by the Madison Neighborhood Grants Program. Free copies are available at the Dean House and from the neighborhood association by calling Mary Bean at 222-5783.

Donations

Volunteers have been cataloging the quilts, clothing and other objects that Carol Dietmeyer donated to the Society.

Dorothy Haines has donated several items recently: metal headed Minerva doll with Kringle Society label, box of lead toy soldiers, 1971 photo of the tank farm on Highway 51, and three fans.
